I can't believe I'm going to say this publicly, but I've been reading rom-com novels during this entire pandemic and it gives my brain such a reprieve from thinking about work (and raising a tiny baby!).
There is no shame in reading rom-coms! In fact, while much of the effects-of-fiction-on-empathy research is a bit mixed and having trouble being replicated, I recall one study showed romance was the most effective genre for increasing empathy. I've been reading trashy space horror recently, myself. :)
